AI Gave Every Brand the Same Tools. Taste Is What Is Left.

Every brand now has the same models, prompts and references. When execution is commoditised, the advantage moves to knowing what to make in the first place.

AI Gave Every Brand the Same Tools. Taste Is What Is Left.

AI made marketing easier. It also made looking different much harder.

Almost every brand now reaches the same tools, the same prompts, the same reference libraries. Work that used to take a week takes an afternoon. That is a real gain, and it is also the problem: when everyone can execute, execution stops being the advantage.

If everyone has the same tools, what is the advantage?

Knowing what to make before you make it.

That sounds soft until you try to write it down. It means having a clear enough view of your own brand to answer:

  • What feels right for this audience specifically
  • What feels distinctly yours and could not be signed by a competitor
  • What should be said, and what is better left unsaid
  • Which ideas deserve development, and which are simply available
  • Which trends are relevant, and which are noise wearing a trend's clothing

Those are judgement calls, not prompts, and they get made before a tool is opened.

Why does speed without direction make things worse?

Volume amplifies whatever direction you already had, including the absence of one.

A brand with no clear point of view used to produce a little forgettable work. The same brand with AI produces a lot of forgettable work, faster, and reads the higher output as progress. The feed fills up, nothing lands, and the only metrics that move are the ones that were going to move anyway.

What should stay human?

Strategy and taste.

Strategy, because deciding where a brand is going means reading a market that is not fully written down anywhere. Taste, because knowing that something is technically correct and still wrong is not a fact you can retrieve. Most creative decisions are a choice between several defensible options, and the reason for picking one is usually a reason about people.

Everything around those can be helped. Research synthesis, first drafts, variant generation, resizing, scheduling, reporting. That is genuine unglamorous time back and it is worth taking.

How do we use AI at KATA?

To do the work faster, not to decide what the work is.

"Technology works best when it is paired with human insight," says Mariam Tania, Founder of KATA Consulting. "We use AI to make the work smarter and faster. Strategy, creative direction and the human read on an audience stay with people, because those are the parts a client is actually paying for."

In practice the model never gets the first word on positioning, and nothing ships on its say-so alone.

So what is worth asking?

Not whether your brand uses AI. Almost everyone does, and saying so out loud stopped meaning anything.

Ask whether the work still sounds like your brand once the tools are involved. If it could carry a competitor's logo and nobody would notice, the tools are not what went wrong.
